EU-Philippines FTA: first round to take place in May 2016

The first round of negotiations is expected to take place on 23-27 May of this year in Brussels. Most of the chapters will be discussed between the negotiators as both parties have been discussing this issue over the past years in the context of the scoping exercise. Both sides are well aware of their respective level of ambitions and expectations and know what could be realistically achieved during the negotiations. FTAs previously signed with Vietnam and Singapore are likely to be used as a template to ease the negotiation process.
