India cancelled chief negotiators’ meeting following an EU import ban on 700 of its generic drugs
The Indian authorities have decided to defer the resumption of the FTA talks after the EU decided to ban 700 pharmaceutical products after allegations of clinical trial manipulations.
The FTA negotiations started in 2007 but have been suspended in 2013 due to different levels of ambition between the negotiating teams. During an informal meeting in June, EU Commissioner Cecilia Malmström and India Trade minister Nirmala Sitharaman agreed to set up a chief negotiators’ meeting in September to assess the possibility of resuming FTA talks.
